Our Hair Loss Treatment combines several different therapies together. Numerous research studies show that each of the three, micro-needling, red light therapy, and FIR, individually stimulate new hair growth. We combine them for a more powerful effect to get the best results possible.
Hair loss is a common condition that affects millions of people around the world. It can have a significant impact on one’s self-esteem and confidence, leading many people to seek out effective treatments to regrow their hair.
Overview of Micro-needling, Red Light Therapy, and Far Infrared Therapy
Micro-needling, red light therapy, and far infrared therapy are three different approaches to hair loss treatment that have gained popularity in recent years. Research shows these therapies work by stimulating the hair follicles, promoting hair growth, and improving the overall health of the scalp.
Hair Loss: Causes and Symptoms
Before delving into the specifics of micro-needling, red light therapy, and far infrared therapy, it’s important to understand the causes and symptoms of hair loss. Hair loss can occur due to a variety of reasons, including genetic factors, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and medical conditions such as alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia. The symptoms of hair loss may vary from person to person but can include thinning hair, receding hairline, and bald patches.
Understanding Micro-needling
Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a medical device with fine needles to create tiny puncture wounds on the scalp. These micro-injuries stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the scalp, promoting hair growth and improving the health of the hair follicles.
Micro-needling is a medical procedure performed in a clinical setting by a trained professional. In California, micro-needling can only be done by MDs, nurses, and Licensed Acupuncturists. Estheticians cannot give micro-needling treatments.
How Microneedling Helps with Hair Loss Treatment
Microneedling is believed to promote hair growth by several mechanisms. First, the micro-injuries created by the needles stimulate the release of growth factors that promote the proliferation of hair cells. Second, micro-needling increases the absorption of topical hair growth products, by improving the penetration of these products into the scalp by up to 2000%. We use only organic, vegan serums, as well as Apple Stem Cells.
Apple Stem Cells have been shown to stimulate human stem cell growth. During micro-needling, the mico-channels created by the needles push the serum directly into the layer of the skin where they are most effective at stimulating the follicles and scalp rejuvenation.
Additionally, micro-needling improves blood circulation in the scalp, delivering more nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles, which can promote hair growth.
Red Light Therapy for Hair Loss
Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses red light wavelengths to stimulate hair growth. Red light penetrates the scalp and stimulates the mitochondria in the cells of the hair follicles, promoting cellular energy production and triggering the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. Our Red Light is a clinical-grade light with the correct wavelength and power to get results.
Far Infrared Therapy for Hair Loss
Far Infrared Therapy (FIR) is a type of heat therapy that uses infrared wavelengths to generate heat in the body. Far infrared waves penetrate deeper into the tissues, including the scalp, compared to other types of heat therapy. This deep heat improves blood circulation in the scalp, increases nutrient delivery to the hair follicles, and promotes hair growth. Our Far Infrared Therapy uses FIR Therapy uses a special mat that treats the whole body, as well as the scalp.
Benefits and Risks of Micro-needling, Red Light Therapy, and Far Infrared Therapy
Like any medical or cosmetic procedure, micro-needling, red light therapy, and far infrared therapy have their benefits and risks. The risks are extremely minimal, considering the benefits and gentle, natural treatments. There may be redness like a mild sunburn (without the pain) for a day after the treatment.
This is unlike typical hair loss treatments using drugs and/or surgical hair implants, which can have severe side effects.
Is Micro-Needling Painful?
Microneedling can cause mild discomfort, but it is generally well-tolerated. We use a topical numbing cream before treatment to minimize discomfort.
Here’s what one of our patients had to say after his first hair loss treatment:
“Man, there was such little ( I can’t even call it pain) sensation. Didn’t hurt really at all. Hell I’m ready for another treatment! Let’s go! Lol!!”
Can I Do This at Home?
No! Micro-needling is a medical procedure that should only be done by licensed medical professionals. We do not recommend dermarollers, which are a form of micro-needling. People generally do not use them correctly, and there is too much risk of damaging the skin and/or causing infection. For these reasons, we do not use dermarollers in the clinic. We only use an electronic medical-grade micro-needling device for safe, sterile treatments.
What about the red light? There are tons of them out there. The truth is that the vast majority of them are underpowered and overpriced, and won’t work to regrow hair. One patient showed us one that was labeled as a red light “laser”. When looking at the website, it was not a laser in any way, was not red light in the correct visible light spectrum (which is the red light that works), and was actually a Far Infrared device, and the wrong wavelength of the FIR devices that have been shown to work. And it was a small handheld device that would take forever to treat a large area, and was priced at $2000!
So no, we don’t recommend you waste your money on overpriced crap that doesn’t work.
Results and Expectations
The results of micro-needling, red light therapy, and far infrared therapy for hair loss can vary from person to person. It’s important to set realistic expectations and understand that these therapies take time to show visible effects. Consistency and adherence to the recommended protocols are key to achieving optimal results.
Micro-needling can only be done once every 4 weeks. The healing process after treatment takes a full 4 weeks, and it’s what stimulates the scalp and the follicles to “wake up” and grow hair. Hair grows about 1/4 – 1/2 inch per month. It generally takes about 3 months to see significant results, however, new hair growth usually starts to show before that.
Red light therapy alone its own takes about 10 sessions to see significant results, although there is usually some growth before that.
Combining Microneedling, Red Light Therapy, and Far Infrared Therapy for Hair Loss
Because each of the different therapies works on its own, we combine micro-needling, red light therapy, and far infrared therapy for hair loss treatment. The idea behind combining therapies is to enhance their individual benefits and promote hair growth synergistically.
Other Hair Loss Treatments
In addition to micro-needling, red light therapy, and far infrared therapy, there are several other hair loss treatments available. We use a serum with scalp-stimulating oils during micro-needling along with the apple stem cells to enhance the effects of the micro-needling. We also recommend a Chinese Herbal Shampoo after treatment with herbs that can help grow hair. And when appropriate for the patient, we may recommend Chinese Herbs to be taken internally that have been shown to help regrow hair.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Will I look like Bigfoot and have new hair growing everywhere?
This is probably the most common question people ask. The answer is no! If you’re not supposed to have hair in an area, there won’t be hair follicles there. You only regrow hair where it’s supposed to be because there are hair follicles in that area.
2. Are there any before and after photos?
Sure! Check out the results of this study published in the National Library of Medicine comparing Rogaine (Minoxidil) versus Microneedling:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3746236/
The microneedling is a pretty dramatic and clear winner.
3. That’s pretty impressive. What does it cost?
Keep in mind that the average cost for a single micro-needling treatment in San Diego is $600-$1,300.
I just Googled the cost of hair transplants in San Diego. Holy crap! $9,000 – $12,000!!! That’s a lot of money. Why not just regrow your own hair, since it’s entirely possible?
I must be out of my mind for undercharging so much. I want a bunch of really good before and after pictures from people I treat, so get in now before I come to my senses.
Here are the details for the Hair Restoration Program:
Basic Hair Regrowth Program:
Includes Microneedling, relaxing body acupuncture, Light Therapy, organic and vegan topical serum with apple stem cells, and Far Infrared Therapy. One treatment per month for four (4) months. $1200. Includes a gift bag worth hundreds of dollars!
Red Light and FIR Only Program:
includes 10 treatments of only Red Light Therapy and Far Infrared Therapy (no micro-needling). 10 sessions for $600 (regular price $750).
This is a great add-on to the Basic Program. Microneedling can only be done every four weeks because the dermis/ skin needs to heal and rejuvenate in between treatments. If you’re extremely motivated to speed up the process, I recommend Red Light and FIR twice a month in between micro-needling treatments. It’s best to wait two weeks after micro-needling and then do the red light the following weeks before the next micro-needling treatment.
The Red Light and FIR Program can also be purchased as a stand-alone program. It takes at least 10 treatments to see results for hair loss. Please keep in mind that the results will not be as dramatic as with including micro-needling. And it will be important to use the recommended hair care products since you don’t get the serums being pushed directly into the skin with micro-needling.
Single Red Light/ FIR Chill Out Session:
includes Red Light and FIR. 30 minutes. $75.
Red Light and FIR therapies can be done at any time, even every day. Schedule a time to come in, relax and try it out. This is just for relaxation. You’re not going to have a new face or new head of hair with one session. But you still get all the health benefits. They add up over time. And it’s soo relaxing…
